Zelenskyy Proposes Freezing Front Lines to End War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv is prepared to accept current battle lines and freeze the conflict to bring an end to the multiyear war. Speaking in an interview with the U.S. network Fox News, Zelenskyy answered in the affirmative when asked if he would accept a peace agreement that respects the status quo and leaves Ukraine in control of 75 percent or more of its territory.
The proposal to freeze the fighting and institute a ceasefire represents the absolute minimum demand that Ukraine currently makes of Russia. Zelenskyy noted that after freezing the current positions, he intends to turn to U.S. Donald Trump and European leaders to demand security guarantees modeled after Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which treats an attack on one member as an attack on all.

The Ukrainian military actually halted the Russian advance over the summer and has pushed back opposing forces in certain sectors. Despite these defensive successes, the diplomatic gap between Kyiv’s willingness to freeze the status quo and Moscow’s insistence on continued offensive operations remains wide.
