Oklahoma City Thunder Waive Guard Robert McCray V Before Preseason Opener
The Oklahoma City Thunder waived guard Robert McCray V on Tuesday ahead of their five-game preseason schedule, according to reports. The move cuts short the undrafted rookie’s training camp stint just hours before the team’s opening preseason matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.
OKC Retains G League Rights to McCray V
McCray V entered training camp as one of the organization’s four Exhibit-10 contract additions. Teams typically retain Exhibit-10 players through the preseason slate to evaluate their capabilities in live game action.
Despite the abrupt end to his NBA training camp tenure, the franchise retains the player’s G League rights. This procedural mechanism allows the organization to assign him directly to the OKC Blue for the upcoming 2026-27 regular season.
McCray V Played for Three NCAA Programs
The 6-foot-4, 188-pound guard spent four seasons competing at the NCAA collegiate level from 2021 to 2026. His career included stops at three different programs: his freshman year at Wake Forest, two subsequent seasons at Jacksonville, and a final campaign at Florida State.

During his lone season with the Seminoles, McCray V posted averages of 16.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per contest. He shot 45.8 percent from the field and converted 35.5 percent of his 4.2 three-point attempts per game.
Thunder Open Preseason Before Regular Season Tip-Off
Following the roster move, the Thunder opened their five-game preseason schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 6, against the New Orleans Pelicans. The exhibition slate runs through Thursday, Oct. 15, giving the coaching staff a final look at the roster before cuts are finalized for the regular season.
Oklahoma City officially tips off the 2026-27 NBA regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 20, when the team travels to face the San Antonio Spurs on Opening Night.
