A Quiet Meal Turns Violent
An 11-year-old girl remains in stable condition after being struck in the head by a stray bullet on June 27. The shooting occurred in a McDonald’s parking lot in Hallandale Beach, Florida, while the child and her father, Oscar Roman Miron, sat inside their SUV waiting for a food order.
According to the Hallandale Beach Police Department, the violence erupted when 18-year-old Ralph N-Kosi Blue—who was reportedly preparing to begin a shift at the restaurant—allegedly opened fire on an individual running toward him. The resulting exchange of gunfire turned the parking lot into a crime scene, with multiple rounds piercing the family’s vehicle.
The Toll on the Family
While the father sustained a gunshot wound to the hip, his 11-year-old daughter, identified as Dora Belen Rivera, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Two other children in the vehicle, ages 2 and 5, were physically unharmed.
Both victims were rushed to a local hospital. Miron has since been released and is recovering at home, but Rivera’s journey is far from over. Family members stated via a GoFundMe campaign that doctors have advised against removing the bullet at this time, as the procedure carries a high risk of causing further neurological damage. The family noted that the victim faces a long recovery process.
Suspect Held Without Bond
The shooter fled the scene immediately after the gunfire. A police search followed, leading to the arrest of Ralph N-Kosi Blue two days later.
Blue now faces two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated assault. He is currently being held without bond at the Broward County Jail.
Franchise Severs Ties
Brad Ashlin, the owner of the McDonald’s franchise, confirmed that Blue is no longer employed by the organization. In a statement provided to People magazine, Ashlin expressed devastation regarding the event. The franchise is cooperating fully with the Hallandale Beach Police Department, including the handover of surveillance footage to assist in the ongoing investigation.
