Chungcheongbuk-do Food Culture Festa Opens November 5 at Cheongju OSCO

The 28th Chungcheongbuk-do Food Culture Festa will open on November 5 at Cheongju OSCO, launched as a participatory festival co-hosted by Chungcheongbuk-do Province and MBC Chungbuk, inews24.com reported. The event centers on the “Chungcheongbuk-do Representative Taste Project,” an initiative designed to establish distinct signature dishes directly linked to local regional names through entries from residents, aspiring culinary entrepreneurs, and professional chefs.

Live Culinary Contests and Commercial Rollout Plans

The core live cooking competition divides into two tracks featuring 18 competing teams: creating local specialty items geared toward commercial restaurant adoption, and city- or county-level representative dishes, inews24.com reported. Winning recipes will be distributed to restaurants across the province to strengthen business self-sufficiency and boost sales in the local dining sector. Chef Jung Ho-young is scheduled to host a special cooking show to reinterpret the value of local specialty ingredients for attendees.

Competition Prizes and On-Site Public Attractions

National applicants competing in the live cooking battles are vying for cash prizes reaching 5 million won for the grand prize, 3 million won for the top excellence award, 1.5 million won for excellence, and 1 million won for encouragement, inews24.com reported. Ancillary attractions feature promotional booths for municipal foods, displays from provincial bakeries, sodium and sugar reduction awareness campaigns, experiential school meal support center exhibits, Jeju regional cuisine displays, and an operating food truck zone.

Turning Local Flavors Into Brands

“The Food Culture Festa will serve as a turning point to elevate Chungcheongbuk-do’s hidden flavors into specialty brands sought after by visitors nationwide,” Jang Woo-seong, the province’s bio-food and drug bureau director, told inews24.com. Officials plan to commercialize the newly uncovered dishes to stimulate regional economic vitality following the conclusion of the event.
