Hasan Korkmaz Pleads Guilty to $2 Million Credit Card Scheme

Hasan Korkmaz, a 45-year-old Las Vegas resident and owner and operator of San Diego Logistics Group Inc., pleaded guilty in federal court to all 18 counts of an indictment charging him with bank fraud, money laundering, and aggravated identity theft. Court records show that Korkmaz executed a credit card “bust-out” scheme across 2022 and 2023, utilizing stolen personal information from almost 100 individual victims to target two banks and inflict over $2,103,000 in total losses.

Stolen Identities and Maximum Limit Charges

To execute the fraud, Korkmaz obtained names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers belonging to real individuals. Korkmaz used these details to apply for and open numerous fraudulent credit card accounts. He then used the credit cards to incur charges at various businesses, including his own San Diego Logistics Group Inc. Individual transactions frequently reached thousands of dollars, with certain single charges climbing as high as $18,500.

To sustain the operation, Korkmaz made fraudulent payments to the credit card accounts using checks drawn on accounts containing insufficient funds or on entirely non-existent accounts. This tactic temporarily restored the available credit limits, allowing him to incur additional charges at or near the maximum credit limits for the accounts.

International Money Laundering and Return to the United States

After maximizing the fraudulent credit lines, Korkmaz laundered the proceeds by transferring funds internationally to a bank account in Türkiye under his control. Public filings indicate that Korkmaz absconded to Türkiye immediately after pulling off the $2 million scheme. He spent 18 months abroad before returning to the United States, where he was arrested in June 2025.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Mokhtari and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine Rookard.
