Man Dies After Extreme Constipation, 9 Kg of Feces Found in Stomach

jakarta – A 41-year-old man in Ohio, United States, died from extreme constipation after suffering for months. The condition caused a blockage in his large intestine with a mass of feces weighing 9 kg (approximately 20 pounds).

james Stewart died on November 15, 2024. His family is suing Clear Skies Ahead care home in Bazetta Township, alleging the death was preventable.

Stewart resided in a care home due to his intellectual disability and need for daily supervision. He also had a history of constipation and took medications with critically important gastrointestinal side effects.

The family alleges that care home staff ignored numerous signs and symptoms, including Stewart’s enlarged stomach, bruising, repeated stomach pain complaints, and behavioral changes. The lawsuit states he hadn’t had a bowel movement for weeks to a month before his death.

Despite his deteriorating condition, the family claims the care home staff failed to contact relatives or medical professionals. The day before his death, two staff members attended a psychiatric appointment for another resident, while Stewart’s condition continued to worsen.
