Uni Baskets Need Continued Patience After Loss to Crailsheim
Teh Uni Baskets must remain patient in their pursuit of a third season victory following their defeat against the heavily favored Merlins in Crailsheim. GAMEDAY.MS gathered reactions and compiled statements from head coach Götz Rohdewald and other key figures.
The Coaches’ Thoughts
Götz rohdewald,Head Coach of the Uni Baskets: “It was a closely contested game for a long time. Crailsheim undoubtedly deserved to win, playing a very good defence. In the first half, we created our biggest problems with ten turnovers. Otherwise, we did a good job. In the second half, it was both the physicality and the rebounds that cost us the game – and throughout the game, Gaines was able to score at the basket, even though the plan was to let him shoot and not give up easy points inside. we made some mental errors.it was more of an eight- to ten-point game and the final margin was higher than it needed to be. We played well for a large part of the game – with the exception of the points mentioned.”
David McCray, Merlins head Coach: “It was a very notable win. We didn’t shoot well today at all. We earned a lot of free throws, but sadly didn’t make them. But our defense was very good today. Allowing only 69 points, and no more than 20 points in any quarter, means you can win even when you shoot 18 percent from three and 67 percent from the free-throw line. If you defend well, you have a chance to win such games. Thus, I am glad that we won today.”
