A moderate 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck the New Britain region in Papua New Guinea late Sunday, according to seismological monitoring agencies. The tremor occurred at 22:58 GMT, originating at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, data from the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences shows.

According to the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, as reported by Bernama, the shallow underground movement was pinpointed at a latitude of 6.54 degrees south and a longitude of 147.52 degrees east.
Additional seismic tracking from Volcano Discovery noted the epicenter was situated roughly 106 kilometers northwest of Kerema.
