5.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Sukabumi, West Java

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 02:18 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located 115 kilometers southwest of Sukabumi.

Earthquake Details

According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at coordinates 7.96 South Latitude and 106.92 East Longitude. The earthquake’s depth was 43 kilometers.

Tsunami Risk

BMKG has confirmed that the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat.

Recent Earthquake Activity in West Java

Recent earthquake activity in the region has been attributed to shallow, active faults. On September 20–21, a series of earthquakes impacted the Sukabumi and Bogor regions of West Java, similarly originating from a shallow active fault.

West Java Rainfall Risk

The BMKG has also issued warnings regarding an increased risk of rainfall in West Java. Approximately 65% of the region has the potential for high rainfall, with intensities ranging from 150 to 300 millimeters over a ten-day period. Areas expected to experience high rainfall include parts of Bogor Regency, Depok City, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Purwakarta, and southern Subang.
