A six-year-old girl from Indonesia was confirmed dead after she and her mother were struck by a car in Singapore’s Chinatown, a famous tourist attraction in the city-state, on Feb. 6.
The pair were hit at a car park next to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple on South Bridge Road in the Chinatown area, popular with tourists, at about 11:50 a.m., according to The Straits Times.
Police said the 31-year-old mother and her daughter were conscious when they were taken to a nearby hospital, but the child later died from her injuries, Channel News Asia reported.
Photos and a video of the accident’s aftermath were uploaded on social media, showing a man holding a girl as a woman lies on the road next to them.
A 38-year-old female driver was arrested following the accident for driving without reasonable consideration, causing death.
Singapore’s Chinatown blends rich heritage with modern vibrancy through iconic temples, bustling markets on Pagoda Street, and renowned hawker food centers.
Tourists frequent the area for cultural landmarks, restored shophouses, and nightlife.
