Borisov Addresses Protests, Defends Budget

Boyko Borisov has issued his first statement following widespread protests in Sofia and across Bulgaria yesterday.

The quote was published on the GERB party‘s Facebook page and quickly shared by other party members. Borisov is pushing back against demands for changes to the national budget, which he defends as a product of difficult compromises.

“I refuse to comply wiht and silently accept every unreasonable demand regarding this undeniably flawed budget,” he stated. “Or, stand with GERB, and together we can work with a majority of 121 deputies to create a new, stable financial plan.”

The protests reflect growing public dissatisfaction with the current government’s economic policies and concerns about corruption. Demonstrators are calling for a more clear and accountable budget process.

It’s unclear what specific “crazy requests” borisov is referring to, but the statement suggests a firm stance against further concessions. The future of the budget, and the stability of the ruling coalition, now hangs in the balance.
