Phoenix Braces for Coldest Temperatures of the Season
The Phoenix area will experience the coldest temperatures of the season on Friday, December 5. Parts of Gila County are under a freeze warning, and most of metro Phoenix will see lows in the upper 30s and low 40s overnight.
A freeze warning is in effect for higher elevation communities in southern Gila County from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.Temperatures could drop to or below 32 degrees. While most of Phoenix will stay above freezing, some neighborhoods will wake up to very cold temperatures.
This cold snap follows a dry period in the Southwest.Temperatures will be near or slightly below normal on Friday, but will start to warm up over the weekend. By the middle of next week, temperatures will be above normal.
“We’ll see warming temperatures for the rest of the week,” said Mark O’Malley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix. “Highs the next couple of days will be in the middle to upper 60s, but early next week will warm up into the low 70s.”
