UTN Santa Fe Hosts Regional “CAPACITA+” AI Training with Google Cloud

The National Technological University, Santa Fe Regional Faculty, served as an Argentine hub for the “CAPACITA+ program: AI in practice with Google Cloud” this past Saturday, participating in a simultaneous rollout across multiple Latin American nations.

Organized by the Secretariat of Information and Dialogue Technologies of the national UTN – spearheaded by Eng. Alejandro Toffolo (elected dean) and the Department of Information Systems Engineering of UTN Santa Fe – the event drew over 130 in-person attendees, including students, faculty, and alumni, alongside numerous virtual participants.

This program is a large-scale, free initiative from Google Cloud aimed at broadening access to Generative Artificial Intelligence skills, notably for individuals without a technical background. The regional goal is to reach over 200,000 participants from 50 universities in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay.

“Great Event”

Milagros Gutiérrez, Director of the Department of Information Systems Engineering at UTN Santa Fe, emphasized the event’s significance. “The event that took place this Saturday is an initiative by Google to promote the package of tools they have in Google Cloud, which are all powered by artificial intelligence,” she explained.

Gutiérrez highlighted the continental scope of the training. “This event was held simultaneously throughout Latin America. In Argentina there were several locations where the same training was held: Córdoba, Tucumán, Buenos Aires, Rosario and even Santa Fe. In Santa Fe, the headquarters was the National Technological University,” she noted.

Google AI Training for University Students in Santa Fe

A recent training session introduced students from several universities in Santa Fe, Argentina, to the practical applications of Google’s generative AI tools. The event, held at the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN) Santa Fe, aimed to equip students with skills applicable to their studies, work, and daily lives.

The session began at 10:00 AM with an introductory video, followed by a presentation from Google trainers demonstrating various AI-powered tools. According to Juan Gutiérrez, a representative from UTN Santa Fe, the training focused on showcasing google’s AI-enhanced tools and their use in everyday activities.

A key component of the training was learning how to effectively use “prompts” – a current method for interacting with artificial intelligence. Gutiérrez emphasized the importance of mastering this skill.

Following a presentation lasting approximately one hour and forty minutes, participants were granted access to google Cloud tools to further practice and explore the concepts covered. “At the end of the talk, all participants were given access to Google Cloud tools so that they can continue doing practices and training,” Gutiérrez stated.

The training included students from the Universidad Nacional de Litoral (UNL), the Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) Santa Fe, and the UTN Santa Fe.
