Zelensky Firmly Opposes Ceding Ukrainian Territory to Russia

Kyiv – Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has firmly stated that Ukraine has no legal or moral grounds to give any of its territory to Russia as part of any deal to end Moscow’s nearly four-year invasion.

“Do we envision giving up territory? We have no legal right to do so, according to Ukrainian law, our constitution, and international law. And we certainly don’t have a moral right either,” Zelensky emphasized during a recent press conference, as reported by AFP on December 9, 2025.

Zelensky noted that the United States is working to find a compromise on this issue between Ukraine and Russia.
