Xbox Faces Mounting Challenges as Sales Plummet
Xbox is significantly behind PlayStation and Switch in sales, and its performance continues to decline each quarter. The platform faces negative factors including job cuts, studio closures, price increases, and weak console sales.
Industry discussion suggests a decline for the Microsoft brand. Laura Pryor stated in June that Microsoft “no longer seems willing or literally unable to release any more hardware.”
Mike Ibarra, in a later-deleted post, described the strategy as “confusing” and warned of “a lot of needle pricks and deaths.”
Microsoft’s gaming revenue fell 2% year-over-year. Hardware sales plummeted 29%. The overall console market also weakened, with November spending-typically a strong month-down 27%, marking the worst November performance in 20 years.Xbox Series console sales were notably hard hit, dropping 70%.
