On December 15th and 21st, 2025, the Recreation Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Michael Hofstetter, captivated audiences in Graz’s Stefaniensaal with their performance of Handel’s Christmas oratorio, Messiah. The concert featured Part I of the work, originally conceived as a Passion oratorio, alongside a selection from Part II, culminating in a powerful rendition of the “Hallelujah” chorus, preceded by dramatic choral and aria excerpts from Part II. Beyond the orchestra’s fabulous performance, Camerata Styria inspired listeners with their lovely choral singing. the soloists – Miriam Kutrowatz (soprano), Anna manske (mezzo-soprano, stepping in for the unwell Neira Muhic), Gernot Heinrich (tenor), and Ludwig Mittelhammer (baritone) – also shone brightly.
the first part of the oratorio beautifully announces the birth of Jesus Christ and recounts his healing work. This narrative builds to a triumphant depiction of the christian faith and the hope it inspires,ultimately leading to a deeply moving “Hallelujah.” The concert encompassed all the quintessential themes of Advent, perfectly attuning visitors to the Christmas spirit and leaving them filled with anticipation, hope, and gratitude. This was achieved through the exceptional vocal performances of the soloists and the remarkable artistry of Camerata Styria. The Recreation Orchestra and conductor Michael Hofstetter also deserve high praise for creating a especially magical Christmas atmosphere through their unique approach to music-making on historical instruments.

Opportunities abound in January with “Come on, come on,” featuring fiery gypsy swing and Balkan jazz, and “Tschaikowski Fünf.” Also noteworthy is the Styriarte Graz Festival, scheduled for June 26th to July 26th, 2026, under the theme “Light games.”
