Torrential Rain Causes Flooding and Red Alerts on Spain’s Costa del Sol

Heavy rainfall has inundated the Costa del Sol region of Spain, leading to widespread flooding in Malaga and Marbella. Authorities have issued red weather alerts for the Sol and Guadalhorce areas of Malaga province as the region prepares for continued extreme weather conditions.

The intense downpour began on Saturday afternoon and persisted into the evening,causing critically important disruption. The Guadalteba, Sierra de las Nieves, and Guadalhorce Valley areas have been notably hard hit by the severe weather.

According to data from the Junta de andalucía’s Hidrosur network, rainfall totals have reached as high as 42.6mm in some locations. Local emergency services are currently responding to reports of flooded streets and potential property damage. Residents are being urged to exercise extreme caution and to avoid unnecessary travel.
