ghana Badminton Championships Crown New Regional Champions
Andy Amofah upset top seed Ahmad Abdul-Samad 2-1 in a thrilling Men’s Singles final, Jennifer Eduam dominated Margaret Amiokor Sarpeima Sarpei in straight sets for the Women’s Singles title, and Reuben Teye Tetteh excelled in both Mixed and Men’s Doubles. the year-ending Ghana Badminton Regional Individual/Mixed Ranking Championships were a resounding success in Accra this weekend.
The 2025 Regional Ranking Championships, held at the Borteyman Sports Complex from December 26-27, brought together players from across Ghana. This triennial event identifies promising talent for national teams in Men’s Singles,Women’s Singles,Men’s Doubles,and Mixed doubles competitions.
Sixteen-year-old Amofah displayed exceptional form throughout the two-day tournament, winning four knockout matches without dropping a set before his stunning comeback victory against the national number one, Abdul-Samad.
The 2025 African Youth Games gold medalist began his run with a 21-14, 21-12 win over Ishmael Appiah in the round of 16. He then defeated Douglas Keddy 21-17, 21-8 in the quarterfinals, followed by a commanding 21-13, 21-8 victory against Brempong Ofori-Acheampong in the semifinals. He secured his place in the final by defeating Leslie Addo 21-12, 21-7.
Despite a difficult start in the final, losing the first set 21-7 to the favorite, Amofah mounted a remarkable comeback.
