Joan Marie Nyhus, a dedicated Nurse Practitioner and passionate advocate for health and wellness, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in Roberts, Wisconsin, after an eleven-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was 61 years old.

Born on march 30, 1964, in Oakes, North Dakota, Joan dedicated her life to caring for others.As a Nurse Practitioner at Health East and Neurological Associates, she made a significant impact on the lives of her patients, demonstrating a genuine commitment to thier well-being [[2]]. Her colleagues remember her as a compassionate and skilled healthcare professional.

Beyond the clinic: A Life in Motion

Joan’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle was evident in her personal pursuits.She was an avid runner, regularly participating in marathons and triathlons, and found joy in pushing her physical limits. Joan is survived by her husband, Paul Nyhus, and her three daughters, Greta, Sara, and Erin Nyhus. She is also survived by her brothers, steve and Mike Frojen, and her sisters, maureen Schmidt and Loraine Frojen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Doris Frojen, and her brother, Rick Frojen [[2]].

Services and Party of Life

A service to celebrate Joan’s life will be held at Cross Lutheran Church in Roberts, WI, on January 17th at 11:00 AM, with visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon. A celebration of life will also be held at the Olderness family farm in Oakes, ND, on Saturday, June 13th [[2]].

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Joan’s memory.
