Authorities in Guatemala City have recovered the remains of two individuals buried in a wooded area connecting San José Pinula to the San José residential areas. The revelation was made during the early hours of Saturday, January 10, 2026.
The bodies were found approximately three meters (nearly ten feet) below the surface and were reportedly wrapped in sheets. Due to an advanced state of decomposition, immediate identification was not possible.
Emergency medical personnel initially responded to the scene before notifying law enforcement. The area was immediately secured to preserve the integrity of the examination.
Personnel from the Public Ministry and the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) were dispatched to remove the remains for transport and subsequent forensic analysis. These examinations will be crucial in determining the cause of death and estimating the time elapsed since burial.
