## meta Shuts Down VR workrooms and Shifts Focus from Metaverse too Wearables

Meta is discontinuing its Workrooms app on February 16, allowing users to download their data before access is removed. This move comes as part of a broader restructuring within the company’s Reality Labs division, which has experienced meaningful financial losses.

The company also announced it is ending Horizon managed services, its subscription service for organizations managing Quest headsets,in February. These changes reflect a strategic shift away from heavy investment in the metaverse and towards areas like wearables, including its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses.

This decision follows the closure of three of Meta’s VR studios and acknowledges the substantial financial strain the metaverse projects have placed on the company. Reality Labs reported losses exceeding $70 billion between 2021 and 2023, according to Engadget. Meta indicated to Engadget that it is reallocating investments to prioritize other technologies.
