Microsoft teams Licensing updates: What’s changing in April

Microsoft is set to roll out meaningful changes to Teams licensing on April 1st, impacting features and scalability for organizations of all sizes. these updates streamline offerings and enhance capabilities,particularly for large-scale events and shared workspaces.

Expanded Access to location Services

Users with Exchange Online Calendar licenses will automatically gain access to both Places Finder and Places Explorer. This integration simplifies meeting scheduling and enhances the hybrid work experience by providing tools to locate and book workspaces.

Teams Premium features Return to Teams Enterprise

Microsoft is consolidating features previously exclusive to Teams Premium, integrating them directly into Teams Enterprise. This includes robust Town Hall and Webinar functionalities, as well as the Enterprise content Delivery Network (eCDN). This change eliminates the need for a separate Premium license to access these powerful event management tools.

Scaling Events with New Capacity Packs

Organizations requiring large-scale event capabilities will benefit from new Capacity Packs. These packs will allow scaling of Teams Town Halls and Webinars from the current limit of 10,000 attendees to an impressive 100,000. This expansion caters to the growing demand for large virtual events and broadcasts.

Teams Shared Device Rebranded as Teams Shared Space

To better reflect its intended use, the Teams Shared Device license is being renamed to teams Shared Space.This change clarifies the license’s purpose for shared devices in environments like lobbies, kiosks, or frontline work scenarios, improving clarity for administrators and users.
