Oil Prices Rise as US Warships deploy to Middle east
Jakarta – Global oil prices experienced a surge on Friday,january 23rd,following the announcement of a deployment of United states warships towards Iran by President Donald Trump. This move has intensified existing anxieties within the market regarding potential military conflict in the Middle East, a region critically crucial to global oil supply, particularly given Iran’s notable role within the Institution of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
According to reports from Oilprice.com and Reuters, the price of Brent crude oil climbed by over 1%, reaching approximately USD 64.82 per barrel. Concurrently, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil strengthened, exceeding USD 60 per barrel. This increase effectively reversed a previous decline of around 2% observed before President Trump’s statements made aboard Air Force One.
“We have a fleet. We have a large fleet moving in that direction,and maybe we don’t need to use it,” President Trump stated to reporters while returning from the World Economic Forum in Davos,Switzerland.
The President underscored the United states’ close monitoring of the situation in Iran amidst escalating geopolitical tensions. confirmation from US officials indicates that the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by several guided missile destroyers, is anticipated to arrive in the Middle East within the coming days. The market reacted swiftly to this deployment,interpreting it as a heightened risk of disruption to the global oil supply chain.
