Uber Driver Calls: Why Rapport Doesn’t Matter (and How to Get a Second Call)

Began adopting the “Uber Driver” approach in 1st calls.

I long have not seen the value in rapport for a short first call. Earning a 2nd call doesn’t depend on you hitting it off, and every minute counts…BUT…

There are definitely some prospects that like to open up. They do want to talk about their day and vent.

So here’s what I now lead with – “How’s your week going?”

Scenario #1

Them: “Great. How about yours?”

Me: “Great as well. Look I know your time is valuable and we reached out to you… (cut to it)”

Scenario #2:

Them: “Ah, it’s been better. My son is sick from school and we have huge weekend plans doing …”

Me: *Continues on… asks a few questions*

Lengthy response -> Take this as permission to spend 2-3 minutes.

Short response -> Cut right to it.

Like the “uber driver” coined approach?

I began adopting the Uber driver approach in first calls. I long have not seen the value in report for a very short first call earning a second call. It doesn’t depend on you hitting it off and every minute counts. But I’ll admit there are definitely some prospects that like to open up. They do want to talk about their day or maybe even vent. So here’s what I now lead with. How’s your week going in scenario number one? They might answer great. How about yours all then answer great as well. Look, I know your time is valuable. And we reached out to you, so I’ll cut right to it in scenario 2, if they give me an answer like, ah, it’s been better. My son is sick from school and we have huge weekend plans doing XY. And in that case, I’ll continue on and I’ll ask them a couple questions. So if they give me a lengthy response, take this as permission to spend two or three minutes. And if they give you a short response, take that signal, cut right to it. What are your thoughts on the Uber driver approach to report? I’d love to hear in the comments below.
