Pike County girls soccer is heading into the season with the highest expectations in program history. The defending Class 2A champions are looking to repeat in an extremely tough classification.
The Pirates enter the 2026 season on an 11-game winning streak. While the team has been strong over the past several years, making at least the second round of the playoffs every season since 2020, last year’s championship run came somewhat out of left field. In 2024, Pike County went 13-6-1 and reached the quarterfinals. Last season, the Pirates went 20-2 and dominated the playoffs, outscoring their five opponents by a combined score of 38-8.
Five players scored double-digit goals for Pike County last year.
The Pirates will need to replace two of those players in Anna Bottoms and Olivia Parks, who combined for five of the team’s six goals in the championship match and accounted for 46 of the team’s 144 goals. However, Pike County does return Jacey Fillingim, Sophie Moss, and Piper Jones. That trio scored 61 goals, nearly half of the team’s total, and added 40 assists. With expanded roles this season, all three should be poised to take another step forward.
The Pirates will once again compete in one of the toughest regions in the state. Teams like Morgan County and Callaway will challenge Pike County for region supremacy. Last year, both spent much of the season in the top 10, finishing 14-6, with Morgan County advancing to the semifinals.
In Class 2A, teams such as Savannah Arts, Coahulla Creek, and Columbus will also pose significant challenges. All three reached at least the quarterfinals last season, with Savannah Arts finishing as the runner-up, Coahulla Creek reaching the semifinals, and Columbus advancing to the quarterfinals.
While Class 2A is undoubtedly one of the toughest classifications in the state, Pike County will again have a legitimate chance to make another championship run.
