A significant shipment of cocaine was detected at the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, hidden in a cardboard box containing a lined thermos and two acrylic paintings. The parcel came from the city of Limpio and had Cannington, Australia as its final destination.
The discovery occurred thanks to preventive controls and inspection of air parcels, carried out by specialized agents of the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD), belonging to the Airport Control Department, with the support of drug detection dogs and in coordination with personnel from the National Directorate of Tax Revenue.
The box was taken to the Asunción Courthouse, where it was opened under judicial supervision. The fiscal agent Abg participated. César Sosa, of the Specialized Unit for the Fight against Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime of Asunción, and the Specialized Criminal Court for Organized Crime, headed by Abg. Osmar Legal.
During the inspection, 802 grams of cocaine were extracted, which had been mixed and chemically treated to acquire a black color, a technique used to try to evade traditional controls. Field tests confirmed that the substance was indeed cocaine.
This finding shows the growing sophistication of criminal organizations and reinforces the relevance of specialized controls in air terminals, demonstrating the commitment of the authorities in the fight against drug trafficking and in preventing the use of the country as a transit route to international markets.
