Since December 2, 2025, and for the first time in its history, Hérault has had a prefect. A highly experienced and well-established senior civil servant in Occitanie, where she was notably prefect of Tarn-et-Garonne and Ariège, Chantal Mauchet intends to fully assume the presence and role of the State throughout the territory, from the mountains which she masters perfectly to the coastline which she is discovering, without making waves but by targeting priorities, from economic development to mobility, including viticulture, proximity to public services, action against global warming.

The prefect declares her love for Hérault and promises that the State will kindly support the population and projects. A strong commitment in a complicated period…

The Métropolitain magazine is available free of charge every week at more than 350 crossing points in the Hérault department. Métropolitain is also the only press title available for self-service in the boarding halls of Montpellier and Béziers airports.
