He has been in demand in Livigno, but Elis Lundholm has basically ducked everything.
The Swede has no interest in being a poster name during the Italian Olympics.
– Some try…
International and local media picked up on Elis Lundholm’s selection and followed up by writing about the 23-year-old from Värmdö after the first hump qualification in Livigno.
“Swedish skier becomes the first transgender Winter Olympian”, was one of the many headlines that appeared.
It was also reported that NBC’s commentators used the wrong pronoun during the broadcast earlier this week.
In addition, Sweden’s Olympic Committee has been inundated with interview requests, but the answer has been the same to everyone. Elis Lundholm is happy to be herself and to compete at the Olympics.
“Included”
Lundholm, who identifies as a man but competes as a woman, has not cared about anything.
– I don’t know… It’s part of being here, he says after the missed final in hump, which means that the next competition will be parallel hump on Saturday.
A lot of people here want you as a poster name (for lgbtqi+), how do you feel about that?
– Some try well… They do what they want and I do mine, he says.
You are not interested in such things?
– No.
– I want everyone to be able to be themselves and do what they want to do.
Closed Instagram
After the Olympic selection, Elis Lundholm chose to shut down Instagram, not because there had been a lot of comments, but more as a precaution.
Before the qualification, the humpback skier changed his mind.
And was mostly received with warm love.
– There have been some bad comments here and there, but for the most part I have received a lot of nice comments. I have received a lot of love and support, he told Aftonbladet earlier in the week.
Elis Lundholm was selected for the Swedish Olympic squad on the future criterion and finished in 25th place in the qualifier. His best result in the World Cup is 18th place.
