K-pop is highly competitive, and idols have always been extremely strict with their singing and dancing abilities and body standards. They are required to maintain an “extremely thin” body shape while performing high-intensity dances on stage. Moon Soo-ah (SuA) and Tsuki (Fuku Fuyuki) of the Korean girl group Billlie recently revealed in a program the hellish and masochistic diet they went through during their trainee days, including living only on ice cubes for a week in a row, which eventually led to serious consequences such as fainting, amnesia, and body dysfunction. Behind the glamor, there is often a huge health price to pay.
Eat only ice for a week! Members of Korean girl group Billlie reveal extreme self-abuse diet
Member of South Korean girl group BilllieWen XiuyaandTsukiRecently on YouTube channel《Okikiㅇㅋ》As a guest, I shared my bitter experience as a trainee on the show. Wen Xiuya said that at that time, the company announced that it would conduct a body fat test. She was already very thin. In order to make the number more “perfect”, she actually started the “ice-eating diet” for a week. She thought drinking water would make her heavier, so she ate only ice cubes from morning to night for the entire week. She recalled that her body could bear it for the first three days, but on the fourth day, she began to lose the feeling of walking. “I was walking up the stairs, but I felt like I was floating in the air.” After this hellish week, her weight dropped to the lowest in her life, 42kg. But she admitted that she could endure it because she was young, and warned everyone not to imitate such dangerous weight loss methods.
I only ate 3 candies a day and starved myself until I fainted and lost my memory.
The weight loss experience of Tsuki, a Japanese member of the same group, was equally shocking. She revealed that in order to look better on camera and be able to wear stage costumes “as small as children’s clothes”, she and another trainee once “ate one candy each morning, lunch and evening, and only ate a total of 3 candies a day.” This method allowed them to lose 4-5 kilograms in a short period of time.
However, the cost of rapid weight loss is malnutrition and a complete breakdown of health. “I felt that this was a battle with myself. Even if I had symptoms of anemia or dizziness, I would die.” One day, she felt dizzy again and tried to endure it. Who knew that the next moment she had no memory and had fainted.
Hell dieting will only make you lose more weight
Wen Xiuya also directly questioned today’s beauty standards on the show. She said that society’s “beauty” standards have recently become the pursuit of extreme thinness. “I don’t understand why everyone keeps talking about everyone’s weight.” She herself has experienced pressure from her mother. “My mother used to say to me: ‘If you lose 120 centimeters from your height, you are the ideal weight.'”
These extreme weight loss methods are equivalent to putting weight figures above physical and mental health, which is undoubtedly a disguised act of self-harm. Cai Mingjie, a specialist in endocrinology and metabolism, once said that many people think that losing weight means starving or eating very low-calorie diets, but extreme dieting is harmful to the body and mind, and may lead to health problems such as hair loss, menopause, and depression. Such rapid weight loss will cause the body to automatically lower its metabolic rate to adapt to the state of hunger, which in turn will slow down the rate of fat burning and increase hunger, leading to an increase in appetite and making it easier for overeating and weight regain.
Eating candy to lose weight is not a long-term solution. American nutritionist Jessica Cording specifically reminds people to pay attention to the problem of “sugar addiction”. Eating sugar can easily lead to abnormal appetite because it cannot produce a substantial feeling of satiety; and the lack of high-quality protein, dietary fiber and healthy fats will cause the ingested sugar to be rapidly metabolized, which in turn triggers a stronger sense of hunger, and may even lead to unconscious compulsive eating behavior. In addition, sugar intake will directly inhibit fat hormones including leptin, disrupting metabolism, leading to a vicious cycle in which the more sugar you consume, the hungrier you feel. Once “sugar addiction” occurs, it will comprehensively affect the human body’s energy, mood and weight, and may significantly increase the incidence of obesity, type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases in the long term.
