All it takes is a handful of seconds to find out who is driving without insurance or with an expired inspection. It is the new technological weapon supplied to the local police of Rome Capital, operational since the end of January and already the protagonist of a barrage of checks that has brought out an alarming fact: in the Capital, one motorist in twenty travels illegally, without insurance coverage or without having carried out the mandatory periodic checks.

The numbers of the operation

For those who are stopped, the consequences are serious. Driving without RCA coverage entails a fine ranging between 866 and 3,464 euros, in addition to the immediate seizure of the vehicle and the deduction of points from the driving licence.
However, those who have neglected the periodic inspection risk fines ranging from 173 to 694 euros and suspension from circulation until the technical inspection is carried out. In both cases, the tow truck snaps.
The extension of controls
At the moment, the devices operate only during day shiftsbut from the headquarters in via della Consolazione they let it be known that the activity will soon also be extended to the night hours and progressively to all quadrants of the capital. An intensification that will inevitably lead to an increase in sanctions.
