On Thursday, conductor Mārtiņš Klišāns was elected as the chairman of the artistic council of the newly established Song and Dance Festival, while choreographer Jānis Purviņš was elected as the deputy chairman.

Klišāns named as the council’s primary task at the moment the successful analysis of the progress and evaluation of the results of the competitions for the artistic concepts of the XXVIII General Latvian Song and XVIII Dance Festival concerts.

The metal tenders have already been announced, and these issues will be on the council’s agenda in the near future.

One of the main tasks of the artistic council is to make and evaluate decisions on creative and artistic issues related to the next festival. The council has the right, if necessary, to request information from state and local government institutions, non-governmental organizations and industry specialists, for example, on infrastructure issues.

Council meetings will be open and scheduled at least four times a year.

The Song and Dance Festival Council is an advisory body whose purpose is to oversee the preservation and development of the Song and Dance tradition. Its operation is ensured by the Latvian National Cultural Center.
