Trump’s Election Reform Bill: Voter Access Concerns & Senate Obstacles

While the Trump-backed <a href="https://www.archynewsy.com/california-prepares-to-resist-federal-election-interference-in-2026/" title="California Prepares to Resist Federal Election Interference in 2026">SAVE America Act</a> is unlikely to beat a Democratic filibuster in the Senate, it’s still drawn national attention for just how draconian the elections reform bill is now that it’s passed the House. The liberal nonprofit Brennan Center for Justice says more than 21 million potential voters do not have “ready access” to the documents that would allow them to vote, possibly installing a significant hurdle to voter access.</p> <p>While voting is already illegal for noncitizens (and exceedingly rare), Republicans have latched onto voter ID requirements that they claim will improve voters’ faith in elections. Opponents counter that the people likely to be affected disproportionately vote for Democrats and that the increased scrutiny could put election workers at risk.</p> <p>The Campaign Legal Center’s policy counsel Nicole Hansen says it’s simply not worth the extra obstacle to exercise one of our fundamental rights.</p> <p>Watch more on YouTube: | Michael Smerconish
