Miami police arrested 33-year-old Micah Lendale Tilley on attempted murder charges after he allegedly admitted to shooting a man in the city’s Liberty City neighborhood on Sunday. Authorities stated that Tilley used both a handgun and a rifle during the afternoon confrontation, which left the unidentified male victim in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Liberty City Shooting Response and Arrest Details
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, finding a man in his 40s wounded in the leg near Northwest 15th Avenue and 68th Street. Medics transported the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for emergency treatment.
Roughly 15 minutes after the initial emergency call, Micah Lendale Tilley approached an officer in a nearby alleyway. Police records indicate Tilley initiated contact by stating, “I did it.” When the officer asked what he had done, Tilley reportedly confessed, “The shooting,” and added, “I was defending myself.” Officers subsequently detained Tilley, a resident of Opa-locka.
Surveillance Evidence and Weapon Recovery
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the scene. According to police accounts, the video captured the victim stepping out of a blue Ford Fiesta carrying a firearm and crossing the street. Investigators stated that Tilley then began firing a handgun at the man.
The arrest report notes that Tilley retrieved a rifle from a Subaru vehicle and continued firing in the direction of the victim. As the wounded man fled on Northwest 68th Street, Tilley pursued him while discharging the black rifle. During a subsequent interview with detectives, Tilley admitted to firing two separate weapons—a rifle and a handgun—though he stated he could not remember which firearm he used first.
Charges and Jail Status
Following his confession and the review of physical evidence, authorities formally charged Tilley with several serious felonies. The charges filed against him include:
- Attempted murder
- Using a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Unlawful discharge of a firearm
- Improper exhibition of a firearm
- Criminal solicitation
As of Monday afternoon, Miami-Dade jail records listed Tilley’s bond as “to be set.” He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
