Aurelie Moeremans Clarifies Annulment of Marriage to Roby Tremonti

Jakarta – Actress Aurelie Moeremans has clarified the status of the annulment of her marriage to Roby Tremonti, emphasizing that the initial blessing was never legally valid according to Catholic Church law. Moeremans, currently residing in the United States, addressed questions from the public regarding the annulment process, seeking to demystify the concept and its implications.

Understanding Annulment vs. Cancellation

Moeremans explained the distinction between “annulment” and “cancellation” in both Indonesian and English. While both terms translate to “pembatalan” in Indonesian, their meanings differ significantly. “Cancellation implies something was once valid but is now being revoked,” she stated. “Annulment, however, signifies that the marriage was never valid from the beginning due to a failure to adhere to Church regulations.”

The Catholic Church’s Investigation

According to Moeremans, the annulment process involved an investigation by the Tribunal Grejawi (Catholic Church Tribunal). This investigation revealed issues that rendered the marriage invalid from its inception. “For example, there was no canonical consent, or there was coercion, or something else,” she explained. This means the marriage did not meet the fundamental requirements set forth by the Catholic Church.

Status of Liberator

Moeremans emphasized that she now holds “liberator” status, a document issued by the Catholic Church confirming she is free from previous marriage ties and canonical obstacles. This status allows her to marry within the Catholic Church, confirming her single status according to Church law.

Addressing Concerns About Past Actions

Moeremans similarly addressed concerns about actions taken during the marriage, questioning whether they constituted sin given the subsequent annulment. She recounted a conversation with a priest who advised that God considers intentions. “If the intention is good, it’s different than knowingly doing something wrong,” she shared, finding solace in this perspective.

The Significance of Annulment

Moeremans stressed that the annulment status invalidates any previous documentation or evidence related to the marriage. However, she acknowledged that individuals who still believe in the marriage’s validity are entitled to their own beliefs.
