Nanooks Capture Governor’s Cup with 6-2 Victory Over Seawolves

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Nanooks defeated the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 6-2 on Saturday, February 21, 2026, securing the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup for the 15th consecutive year and the 23rd time in the series’ 31-year history. The Nanooks scored four unanswered goals in the third period to break a 2-2 tie in front of an announced crowd of 3,865.

First Period Dominance

The Nanooks opened the scoring early in the first period with a goal from Chase Dafoe, assisted by Adam Cardona and Braden Birnie. Birnie extended the lead to 2-0 later in the period, receiving assists from Rylen Roersma and Hugo Marcil.

Seawolves Rally in the Second

The Seawolves began to rally in the second period. Camden Shasby narrowed the Nanooks’ lead to 2-1 at 21:41, assisted by Adam Parsons and Tanyon Bajzer. Dimitry Kebreau then tied the game at 2-2 later in the period.

Nanooks Pull Away in the Third

Upcoming Schedule

The Nanooks (12-15-2) and Seawolves (5-23-1) will meet again on Friday, February 27, and Saturday, February 28, in Fairbanks to conclude their regular-season schedules. Both teams will then head to Missouri during the first weekend of March for the inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Cup tournament, along with Lindenwood (Mo.), Long Island (N.Y.), and Stonehill (Mass.).
