U2, Ed Sheeran, and Antytila Mark Ukraine Invasion Anniversary with New Documentary
U2 has released a short documentary film, directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Ilya Mikhaylus, to accompany “Yours Eternally,” a track from their recently released EP, Days of Ash. The film debuted on Tuesday, February 24th, marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
A Collaboration for Freedom
“Yours Eternally” features vocals from U2 members Bono and The Edge, alongside Ed Sheeran and Taras Topolia, the lead singer of the Ukrainian band Antytila. The song, described by U2 as “written in the form of a letter from a soldier on active duty,” was inspired by Topolia, whom Bono met at the Khreshchatyk metro station in Kyiv in spring 2022. The meeting was facilitated by Ed Sheeran during a visit by Bono and The Edge to Kyiv at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Documenting Life on the Front Lines
The 4½-minute documentary, shot in December 2025, follows soldiers of the Khartiya Corps in the Kharkiv region, offering a glimpse into their daily lives during the war. The film centers on soldier Alina Shukh and her fellow service members. It is part of a larger documentary project slated for release at the end of 2026.
Director Ilya Mikhaylus stated the film aims to showcase “the beating human heart” of the soldiers and “the struggles and sacrifices they are making everyday for the most sacred thing on this planet – freedom.”
Production Details and Availability
The documentary was produced by Pyotr Verzilov, with Maksym Serdiuk and Artem Hryhorian of KNIFE! Films serving as executive producers. The film is currently available to watch on U2’s YouTube channel.
Days of Ash, the EP featuring “Yours Eternally,” was released last week and is described by its producers as “an immediate response” to current events, inspired by “the many extraordinary and courageous people fighting on the front lines of freedom.”
