German Clinic Investigated After 91-Year-Old Patient Found Frozen to Death
A rehabilitation clinic in Buckow, Germany, is under investigation following the death of a 91-year-old patient who went missing after a breast operation. The case has raised serious questions about patient supervision and the timeliness of reporting missing persons.
Delayed Discovery and Tragic Outcome
Margarete S. Was last seen at the Immanuel Clinic on November 30, 2025. Still, her disappearance wasn’t noticed for five days, with relatives being informed on December 5, 2025. The patient had begun rehabilitation at the clinic on November 20, 2025, following a breast operation, and was reportedly recovering well.
Patient’s Disappearance Went Unnoticed
According to her daughter, Margarete S. Was cheerful and fit, and regularly went for walks. The clinic initially attempted to locate her by leaving a note in her room requesting her return after she missed a weigh-in. When she didn’t appear for a scheduled visit, her daughter was finally notified. The daughter expressed distress that the patient’s absence from treatments, meals, and even room checks went unnoticed for days.
Body Found in Buckow Forest
A search involving police, family, and sniffer dogs proved unsuccessful. Tragically, on December 13, 2025, hunters discovered Margarete S.’s body in the Buckow Forest, where she had succumbed to the cold.
Negligent Homicide Investigation
The Frankfurt (Oder) public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into potential negligent homicide by omission against unknown employees of the Immanuel Clinic Märkische Schweiz. Investigators are examining whether staff breached their duty of supervision. The clinic’s management has declined to comment on the allegations, citing the ongoing investigation.
The daughter believes her mother might have survived if the clinic had promptly reported her missing, a sentiment investigators appear to share.
