Liverpool Sign Jeremy Jacquet in £60m Deal
Liverpool have secured the signing of Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet for a reported fee of £60 million. The 20-year-classic will officially join the club on July 1, 2026.
Deal Details
The agreement includes a fixed fee of £55 million, with a potential additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons Sky Sports. Chelsea also made a similar offer, but Jacquet ultimately chose Liverpool, believing he will have more regular playing opportunities at Anfield Sky Sports.
Jacquet’s Career to Date
Born on July 13, 2005, in Bondy, France, Jacquet currently plays as a centre-back for Rennes. He made his professional debut for Rennes on January 13, 2024, in a 2–0 victory against Nice Wikipedia. He then joined Clermont Foot on loan for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season, and continued with them in Ligue 2 for the 2024-2025 season before being recalled by Rennes in February 2025 Wikipedia. He recently extended his contract with Rennes until 2029 before agreeing to the pre-contract deal with Liverpool Wikipedia.
Liverpool’s Defensive Situation
The signing addresses concerns about Liverpool’s defensive depth. As of February 2, 2026, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the only fit senior central defenders, with Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni currently injured Sky Sports. Konate’s contract is also set to expire at the end of the season Sky Sports.
