Cardinal Cupich Condemns White House’s ‘Gamification’ of Iran War

Chicago Archbishop Blase J. Cupich has sharply criticized a recent video posted by the White House on its X account, deeming it a “disgusting” and “sickening” portrayal of the ongoing conflict in Iran. The video spliced footage from actual strikes in Iran with scenes from popular action movies, captioned “JUSTICE THE AMERICAN WAY.”

A “Profound Moral Failure”

In a statement released March 7, 2026, Cardinal Cupich condemned what he called the “gamification” of war, arguing that it diminishes the human cost of conflict and fosters a dangerous detachment from reality. Cupich highlighted the devastating human toll of the conflict, noting that over 1,000 Iranian men, women, and children have been killed in the days following the commencement of U.S. And Israeli bombardments.
