Intel Bolsters Desktop Lineup with Xeon 600 and Core Ultra 200S Plus Processors
Intel continues its 2026 product rollout, expanding its processor offerings across multiple segments. Following the launch of Core Ultra 300 series CPUs for laptops in January and Xeon 600 workstation processors in February, the company has now introduced the Core Ultra 200S Plus Series for mainstream desktops.
Xeon 600 Processors Power Workstations
Earlier this year, Intel launched the Xeon 600 series processors, designed for demanding workstation workloads. These processors boast up to 86 performance cores (P-cores) and 128 lanes of PCIe 5.0 connectivity Intel Newsroom. The Xeon 600 series marks Intel’s return to the desktop workstation market after a nearly three-year absence TechRadar, offering significant improvements in core count and performance.
Core Ultra 200S Plus Series: A Refresh for Enthusiasts
The newly released Core Ultra 200S Plus Series consists of two initial SKUs: the Ultra 7 270K Plus and the Ultra 5 250K Plus, with F-variants also available that disable the integrated graphics. Intel characterizes this series as a refresh of the existing 200 series, pushing the processors to their limits for enthusiast users.
Performance Boosts and Enhanced Memory Support
Both the Ultra 7 270K Plus and Ultra 5 250K Plus offer up to a 900 MHz die-to-die (D2D) frequency boost compared to their predecessors, the 265K and 245K. The 270K Plus includes four more E-cores than the 265K, and the 250K Plus gains four E-cores over the 245K.
Intel claims these enhancements translate to up to a 15% increase in gaming performance compared to the previous 200 series. Notably, the company asserts that the new Ultra 200 Plus series outperforms competing AMD Ryzen processors, with the Ultra 250K Plus being up to 103% better than the Ryzen 9 6000X on Windows 11 25H2, and the Ultra 270K Plus achieving up to 92% better performance than the Ryzen 9 7000X.
Memory Controller Improvements
A significant upgrade with the 200 Plus chips is the memory controller, now stable at DDR5-7200 MT/s, a substantial increase from the previous 6400 MT/s. Intel also introduces early support for 4-rank CUDIMM, enabling systems to support 128 GB of memory per module, potentially reaching a total of 256 GB of DDR5-7200 RAM.
Binary Optimization Tool
Intel is also launching a new Binary Optimization Tool alongside the Arrow Lake-S refresh. This tool, described as a “first-of-its-kind binary translation layer optimization capability,” aims to improve native performance in select games and optimize workloads to increase processor instructions per cycle (IPC) and user performance, even for applications optimized for other architectures.
Pricing and Availability
The Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus is priced at $299, and the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus is priced at $199, with both available starting March 26.
