Cole Reschny Named NCHC Rookie of the Year
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota hockey freshman forward Cole Reschny was named NCHC Rookie of the Year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Reschny is the fifth Fighting Hawk to win the honor since joining the NCHC, and the third over the last four seasons, joining Brock Boeser (2015-16), Shane Pinto (2019-20), Jackson Blake (2022-23) and Sacha Boisvert (2024-25).
Reschny’s Impressive Freshman Season
The Macklin, Saskatchewan, native was a near-unanimous NCHC All-Rookie Team selection this year after leading all NCHC freshmen with 31 points and 26 assists in 30 regular-season games, while scoring five goals. The Calgary Flames draft pick currently has 34 points and 29 assists in 33 games (1.03 points per game), both of which still lead all NCHC rookies. He is currently on an eight-game point streak heading into the NCAA Tournament, having tallied assists in all three NCHC Tournament games.
Reschny has similarly excelled in the faceoff circle, ranking third among NCHC rookies with 276 faceoff wins this season, and his 54.9 win percentage is second among NCHC freshman centers. He also led all NCHC rookies with a +12 plus/minus during the regular season.
In conference play, Reschny led freshmen with 23 points and 19 assists, scoring four of his five goals in NCHC action, including a game-winner. He recorded nine multi-point games in the regular season and has at least one point in 23 of 33 outings to date. He was twice named NCHC Forward of the Week and once Rookie of the Week this year.
His 29 assists this season rank eighth all-time at UND among rookies and are the third-most by a UND freshman this century, behind Zach Parise (2002-03, 35) and Boeser (2015-16, 33).
