Kyle Busch Addresses On-Track Incident with Chase Briscoe at Kansas Speedway

Kyle Busch spoke openly about his on-track confrontation with Chase Briscoe during Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, offering insight into the emotions and split-second decisions that defined the moment. The incident, which occurred in the latter stages of the AdventHealth 400, drew immediate attention from fans and analysts alike as two of the series’ most competitive drivers made contact while battling for position.

Busch, a two-time Cup Series champion and veteran of over 600 NASCAR starts, acknowledged the intensity of the exchange but emphasized that racing at Kansas — a 1.5-mile intermediate track known for producing tight, side-by-side action — often leads to heated moments when drivers are pushing for every inch of track.

“We were both trying to get to the front, and sometimes when you’re racing hard, things happen,” Busch said in his post-race media availability. “Chase and I have raced each other hard for years. There’s no ill will. We both want to win, and when you’re that close, it’s uncomplicated for tempers to flare — but it’s all part of the game.”

The incident unfolded on Lap 267 when Busch, running in the top five, made contact with Briscoe’s rear bumper while attempting a pass on the outside entering Turn 3. The contact sent Briscoe’s Stewart-Haas Racing Ford briefly into the wall before he recovered and continued. Busch, driving for Richard Childress Racing, maintained his position and finished the race in 12th place.

NASCAR officials reviewed the incident but opted not to issue any penalties, determining that the contact was consistent with competitive racing and did not meet the threshold for a violation under the series’ behavioral guidelines.

Briscoe, when asked about the exchange, echoed Busch’s sentiment, calling it “just hard racing.” “We were both going for it,” Briscoe said. “He got into me a little, but I’ve done the same thing to him before. It’s Kansas — you expect it.”

The moment added to a growing narrative of rivalry and respect among NASCAR’s current generation of drivers, many of whom have raced each other since their early days in developmental series. Both Busch and Briscoe have multiple wins at Kansas Speedway, with Busch claiming victory there in 2018 and Briscoe winning the 2022 spring race.

As the Cup Series continues its Midwest swing, the focus now shifts to the next event at Darlington Raceway, where historic challenges and close racing are once again expected to test the mettle of the field.
