Bengaluru Hospital Wall Collapse: Seven Killed, Investigation Launched

Seven people, including two children, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, after a compound wall collapsed near Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru, India, during a period of heavy rain and hailstorm. Seven others were injured in the incident.

Incident Details

The collapse occurred around 5 pm local time as Bengaluru experienced a sudden and intense downpour coupled with hailstorm. The wall, part of a building adjoining the hospital premises, fell onto street vendors and pedestrians in the vicinity. Rescue teams worked to clear debris and provide medical attention to the injured.

Casualties and Response

Among the seven fatalities were two children. The deceased are believed to include local street vendors who regularly operated near the hospital. The injured are reported to be in stable condition and are receiving free medical treatment.

Government Response and Investigation

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the site of the collapse and announced a state-level investigation into the incident. He also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) for the families of each deceased individual. Siddaramaiah stated, “Two of them are children.”

Weather Conditions

The incident followed a prolonged dry spell in Bengaluru, making the sudden heavy rainfall and hailstorm particularly impactful. The thundershowers lasted approximately one hour in many parts of the city, contributing to the wall’s collapse. Gusty winds also caused trees and branches to fall, disrupting traffic in several areas, including BVK Iyengar Road and Sheshadripuram.

Ongoing Concerns

Authorities are currently assessing the exact cause of the wall collapse. The investigation will aim to determine any contributing factors, such as structural integrity or maintenance issues.
