Zapopan Launches Agricultural Support Program to Aid Maíz Producers
Zapopan, a municipality in Jalisco, Mexico, has initiated the “Impulsa tu Cosecha” program to provide economic support to white maize producers, aiming to mitigate production costs and stabilize agricultural activity. The first phase of the initiative, announced on July 7, 2026, distributed supports corresponding to 16 thousand 167 tons of maize to nine agricultural organizations, backed by a municipal investment of two million 425 thousand 50 pesos, according to local government records.
Program Objectives and Immediate Impact

The program targets families engaged in maize cultivation, a staple crop critical to regional food security and economic stability. By offering financial aid, officials aim to ensure production continuity and strengthen the agricultural sector’s role in local supply chains. Eduardo Ron Ramos, the secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development of Jalisco, emphasized that the state government will provide agricultural machinery to support field work and improve harvest productivity.
Government Coordination and Technological Integration
Salvador Villaseñor Aldama, the coordinator general of Economic Development and Combate to Inequality of Zapopan, highlighted that in recent years new technologies and tools have been incorporated to strengthen agricultural production in the municipality. Juan José Frangie Saade, the municipal president of Zapopan, noted that support for agriculture has been a municipal strategy, citing investments in machinery, the use of drones for fertilization and fumigation, the creation of a resource fund for the sector and programs aimed at young producers.
Participating Communities and Future Steps
The initial phase of the program benefited producers from ejidos such as Nextipac, Santa Lucía, Mesón de Copala, San Juan de Ocotán, San Esteban, Copala, La Venta del Astillero and Santa Cruz del Astillero, along with members of the Local Agricultural Association of Zapopan. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve working conditions for farmers through intergovernmental collaboration.
Context and Broader Implications
The “Impulsa tu Cosecha” program seeks to strengthen the productivity of the Zapopan countryside through economic support and coordinated actions with other instances to improve the working conditions of producers.
