Indieground Opens Applications for 2027 Independent Film Library
Indieground, established by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) to improve the distribution and exhibition environment for Korean independent and art films, is accepting submissions for the 2027 Indieground Independent Film Library from July 20 to August 4. This program provides distribution support, including online screenings and financial grants, to independent films completed after January 2025 to increase their visibility and accessibility to audiences.
Submission Deadlines and Eligibility Requirements
Applications open on Monday, July 20, at 10:00 AM and close on Tuesday, August 4, at 6:00 PM. Applications must be completed through the Indieground website.
To qualify, films must meet the following criteria:
- Completion Date: The work must have been completed after January 2025 (based on the first screening date or release date for theatrical films).
- Format: The call is open to all genres, including feature films, documentaries, animations, and experimental films, regardless of running time.
- Applicant Status: Production companies, distributors, or individuals who hold the copyright for both online and offline screenings are eligible to apply.
Funding and Distribution Benefits for Selected Films
Indieground intends to select approximately 80 films in total, consisting of roughly 20 feature-length films and 60 short films. Selected creators will receive a distribution support grant: 4 million KRW for feature films and 1.5 million KRW for short films.
Beyond the monetary grant, the program offers a multifaceted distribution strategy. Selected works will be featured on the Indieground online theater and will be eligible for community screenings, curated special screenings, and the development of promotional content. The 2027 library cohort will be introduced to the public sequentially starting in 2027 via the platform’s SNS channels and the Indieground platform.
Growth and Impact of the Independent Film Library
Launched in 2020, the Independent Film Library has become a core pillar of Indieground’s mission to bridge the gap between independent creators and the public. The program has seen a steady increase in interest from the filmmaking community.
The 2025 cycle received 996 total submissions (170 features and 826 shorts), and 92 films were selected. These works focused on contemporary social issues, including labor, climate, disability, peace, and gender. Current support for these films includes director interview videos and the creation of promotional content for YouTube to ensure the films reach viewers.
