Midjourney, the artificial intelligence company recognized for its image and video generation software, has acquired the astrology platform Co-Star. According to official company statements, Co-Star chief executive officer Banu Guler will join Midjourney as its new Chief Design Officer while maintaining complete control over the astrology application.
Midjourney Expansion Beyond Core AI Tools
The acquisition represents a distinct diversification for Midjourney, which primarily builds and licenses text-to-image software. According to public statements from Guler on the social platform X, the purchase stems from her friendship with Midjourney founder David Holz and their shared view that computers can serve as tools to reveal human psychology and imagination before users can articulate those concepts themselves. The purchase follows another recent expansion initiative by Midjourney: in June, the company announced the development of a full-body ultrasonic scanner under a newly established division called Midjourney Health.
Demographic Reach and Generative AI Sentiment
Co-Star has achieved substantial market penetration among younger demographics, reaching 35 percent of young people in the United States alongside tens of millions of app downloads, according to Guler. Data published in an April Gallup survey indicates that individuals born between 1997 and 2012 continue to use generative AI regularly but harbor increasingly negative sentiments. According to Gallup, Gen Z agreement that they feel excited about AI dropped 14 percentage points to 22 percent, hopefulness declined nine points to 18 percent, and reported anger increased nine points to 31 percent.
