A severe heatwave is sweeping across Lyon and the surrounding region, with French meteorological authorities forecasting temperatures to climb as high as 40°C by the end of the week, according to Météo-France.
Lyon Temperature Forecast and Peak Heat
Temperatures in the Lyon metropolitan area are climbing sharply after a brief respite, with forecasters predicting daytime highs of 35°C on Tuesday and up to 38°C on Wednesday. According to Météo-France, Thursday is projected to be the hottest day of the week, bringing extreme heat that could push thermometers to 40°C alongside a tropical night where minimum temperatures will not drop below 24°C.
The intense heat will persist through the weekend. Météo-France data indicates that temperatures will hover around 38°C on Friday and Saturday, before potentially reaching another peak of 40°C on Sunday. These conditions mark the fourth major heat episode for the region since the beginning of summer.
Extended Duration and Meteorological Outlook
The stagnant heat air mass shows little sign of breaking immediately. According to Météo-France forecasts, daytime temperatures across the region are expected to remain at or above 35°C until at least Friday, August 7.
Forecasters warn that the persistent high temperatures will be accompanied by an increasing risk of localized storms developing over the Monts du Lyonnais as the weather system interacts with atmospheric humidity later in the week.
