A brush fire near La Pobla de Montornès in Tarragona has forced the suspension of high-speed rail service between Camp de Tarragona and La Pobla de Montornés, according to an announcement by infrastructure manager Adif. The disruption, which began at 9:48 a.m. on Monday, directly impacts high-speed rail connections on the Madrid-Barcelona corridor.
Emergency Response and Rail Suspensions
According to Adif’s public statements on social media, the active fire near the Nou path and railway infrastructure prompted immediate safety interventions. In response to the growing threat near the tracks, Protecció Civil activated the Ferrocat civil protection plan in pre-alert phase.
Firefighting efforts on the ground are being led by the Bombers de la Generalitat. According to the agency’s social media updates, crews received the initial alert at 8:22 a.m. and deployed seven ground units alongside specialized support to contain the flames.
Simultaneous Commuter Delays on Rodalies Lines
Compounding the transit disruptions in Catalonia, regional commuter rail operations are facing significant delays. According to transport updates, lines R13, R14, R15, R16, and R17 are experiencing delays averaging more than 30 minutes.
The commuter network delays stem from a separate technical incident involving a train stalled between Sitges and Garraf in Barcelona province. Rail operators and emergency services continue to monitor both situations as repair crews work to clear tracks and restore normal schedules across the affected corridors.
