Musician Tom Morello will release his upcoming studio album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, on September 25 via Mom + Pop Music, featuring production from Tyler Smyth, Carl Restivo, Zakk Cervini, Dan Carey, and Sam Nelson Harris, according to official album announcements. The 10-track LP includes guest contributions from Serj Tankian, Kneecap, Beartooth, and Morello’s son, Roman Morello.
The True Story Behind the Single “Date Night”
Morello previewed the album with the single “Date Night,” a track that recounts the true story of three young Dutch women who operated as spies, saboteurs, and assassins against Nazi forces during World War II, according to official press statements. The women worked underground, seducing Nazi officers, luring them into nearby woods, and executing them.
“I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists,” Morello said in a statement provided by Mom + Pop Music. “I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis. ‘Date Night’ is really a ‘which side are you on?’ song. If any of that offends you, do the math. Oh, and Roman Morello wrote the killer riff in this tune.”
“Date Night” follows the release of the album’s first single, “Adjourn It,” which features Serj Tankian and Roman Morello. The previous track addresses the rising tide of racism and anti-immigrant bigotry, according to the artist’s release details.
