LG Electronics has been selected as the primary supplier for South Korea’s 2026 Jeju Heat Pump Deployment Project, securing a contract to provide 450 units out of 1,042 slated for the island’s first half, according to an announcement by the company and government officials. The initiative, part of a broader national heating electrification push led by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, aims to accelerate South Korea’s transition away from fossil-fuel heating systems.

Government and industry representatives gathered on January 31 at a single-family home in Gugeungsandong-gil, Jeju City, to host the official plaque-heralding ceremony for the region's first installation under the program, as reported by LG Electronics.

Project Scope and Technology Deployment

Under the terms of the selection, LG Electronics will oversee the largest share of the initial regional rollout, supplying 450 residential units. According to corporate disclosures, the company was chosen based on its product competitiveness, installation and after-sales service infrastructure, and extensive global business experience in heating electrification markets.

The project deploys the “LG Therma V” high-efficiency integrated heat pump system boiler. According to technical specifications provided by the manufacturer, the air-source heat pump system delivers roughly four to five times the thermal energy compared to the electricity it consumes. This operational efficiency translates to an estimated 40% to 60% reduction in energy costs compared to traditional fossil-fuel boilers, while substantially lowering direct carbon emissions.

Strategic Impact on National Decarbonization

LG Electronics ES Business Division President Lee Jae-sung stated that the company intends to leverage its proven technology and large-scale operational experience from European and global markets to spearhead South Korea’s domestic decarbonization and heat pump deployment initiatives, according to corporate statements.
